Sunday, October 19 from 3:00pm-5:00pm
with ACLU of Maine & Victoria Rutledge
After our first event in early September, we are once again teaming up with Heather Zimmerman from the ACLU of Maine to continue our Know Your Rights education! Last time, we learned a lot about the different local and federal law enforcement agencies, and how local/state police are collaborating with federal agencies to arrest and detain folks. With the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision (Noem v. Vasquez-Perdomo) that allows racial profiling by ICE, it's more important than ever to make sure that we are equipped with the tools we need to protect ourselves and each other.
In this session we will briefly review what we learned in our first meeting, and then do a series of role playing to give us an embodied experience of different police interactions. This time, we are holding space for some Q&A, so that we are sure you have your questions heard and answered. Show up as you are, with curiosity, care, and a collectivist spirit.
